Means and Opportunities: Student Assistants
Open positions for student assistants (IT support)
We welcome applications to student assistant positions in IT support for the first funding period! We especially encourage women and members of underrepresented groups to apply.
What we offer
- A lively international research environment in theoretical mathematics.
- A shared desk in an office in the Faculty of Mathematics of the UR.
- The opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of IT support/administration tasks.
- Contracts start on October 1, 2026 (or later). We offer six-months contracts with the possibility of extensions
- Type of positions:
- SHK: 39 hours/month (modifications might be possible, depending on the individual situation)
- SHK mit Bachelor: standard option 34 hours/month (36 hours starting Jan 2027) (modifications might be possible, depending on the individual situation)
Tasks
- System administration and support for the members of the CRC based at the UR (we run MacOS and Windows machines)
- Support for hybrid events (video/audio for zoom streaming of lectures, research talks and conferences)
- Administration of our IT infrastructure (mostly website administration, in the future: chat system)
We do not expect candidates to already be experienced in all these tasks. We do expect basic IT proficiency as well as the ability to gain the relevant knowledge and experience for the above tasks while working in the CRC. Our IT infrastructure needs to be reliable, robust, and transparent. Therefore, we expect our student assistants to be able to fully comprehend all code and configurations that they integrate into our systems. In particular, routinely relying on AI input, is not sufficient.
Language requirements
- English language proficiency is required (for communication with international research staff and guests).
- German language proficiency is desired (for communication with the administrative bodies of the UR).
How to apply
- Required documents
- CV (including Matrikelnummer and current/past degree programmes)

- University diplomas/transcript of record
- A list of ongoing/planned SHK(mit Bachelor) contracts (to ensure that no formal limitations exist)
